The Ocean
Have you ever thought about how reminiscent the ocean is to God...??
The ocean, like God, is incredibly vast; it stretches far beyond the horizon, yet reaches you and me. It is all over the world, while I stand in its midst, someone in China, Africa, Indo, Chile, and Australia does the same...it touches both of us, uniquely but at the same time.
It is consistent; it doesn't care if you are rich and famous or poor and unknown...it offers waves to ride, depths to explore, and miles to sail, to every person. It can produce the fiercest storms that bring fear in the wake of destruction while at the same time offer the simplest moments of healing and happiness. For the ocean is both revered in it's power and respected in it's strength; even those who do not wish to partake in it's adventures cannot deny these attributes.
And who can really grasp or fully fathom the ocean? We have found ways to experience the ocean intimately...snorkeling, surfing, swimming, diving, or sailing...but we can never fully grasp how boundless the ocean is. The ocean merely offers us a glimpse, a fleeting moment of understanding that is soon lost as we realize how much we have yet to discover...for the more we learn of the ocean the more we realize just how little we actually know.
The ocean teaches you patience, humility, and pure, unadulterated joy.
We cannot change it, challenge it, or fully understand the mystery of it...but it is always there. Always ready to offer its many lessons to those daring enough to leave their sand castles behind and enter into a place that is ever-changing yet remains the same.
I love how God lives in His creation, speaking truths of Himself in ways that are so meaningfully real.
